On Someone’s Watch - Wham Bam Thank You, Pam!

Top financial consultant Spencer Su explores a range of watches before taking a step into the world of Panerai…

The Swiss and the Italian watchmakers like Rolex and Panerai have come a long way to be regarded as the essence of luxury and chic without coming across as trying too hard. There’s no denying that they each have their own distinctive sartorial inventions and reinventions over the decades. But there’s also no refuting the fact that they differ a fair bit from each other that enables the two watchmakers to target a specific audience who can truly appreciate their timepieces.

One of such a buyer is Spencer Su, who is a top financial consultant for a French multinational insurance firm. Apart from owning a Tudor Heritage Chronograph 70330 SS Automatic and a Rolex Submariner Ceramic 116610LN, the agreeable young lad now proudly wears a Panerai PAM112.

“I love how sturdy and reliable the watch can be. I don’t mean it like how sturdy it is like a Casio G-Shock but more like how vault-like this watch feels,” Spencer commented. “Comparing this to my Rolex and Tudor, I would have the PAM112 as my daily beater for sure. I don’t feel like I have to be extra careful with it. It’s a matter of comfort for me.”

Clad in brown leather strap, Spencer’s Panerai matches perfectly with his nicely seasoned Oxford shoes, which explains the inevitable shot of him tying his laces. It’s almost like a kind of fashion frontiersman that’s the new normal: Stylish, rugged, romantic and mature.

While Spencer isn’t what we would deem as pint-sized, he stands at just 165cm tall, which could be a reason why the 44mm PAM112 stands out on his left wrist. But it certainly doesn’t look out of place. In fact, there’s no doubt that the watch aficionado has the capability to pull off wearing the watch with elegance.

The union of a pair of dark blue pants, a simple white shirt and brown shoes makes perfect sense with the Panerai. You could possibly argue that such an outfit would go hand in hand with a Submariner, but there’s just no arguing how the Panerai PAM112 is nicely mated with Spencer’s outfit of the day.

“I think it’s important to feel proud and confident with the watches that you put on. I was sceptical at first with the 112 because I thought it looked bland. But the moment I put it on, I knew immediately that this was the one I had to have. I fell in love with its simplicity,” Spencer said with a slight blush.

To us, there’s nothing to be embarrassed about falling in love with a watch. In the essence of watch collecting, as we’ve mentioned before, it’s important to follow the heart rather than mind. And as what Spencer mentioned, when you find one that truly deserves your attention, don’t think twice.
